Rochcare is continuing its commitment to delivering outstanding dementia care by introducing a new Dementia Care Experience programme across its homes.
The initiative was designed to help staff better understand the everyday challenges faced by people living with dementia. Team members were invited to take part in a hands-on experience that simulated some of the physical, emotional and sensory difficulties often associated with dementia.
Using specialist equipment and guided activities, staff were able to experience first-hand how confusion, reduced mobility, sensory changes and communication difficulties can affect day-to-day life. The experience encouraged greater empathy, understanding and awareness, helping staff further strengthen the person-centred approach already embedded throughout Rochcare homes.
Following the success of the original Dementia Care Experience session, Rochcare created its own internal version of the programme, allowing even more colleagues across the organisation to take part.
The training forms part of Rochcare’s continued investment in dementia care, staff development and resident wellbeing. By helping carers and support staff gain a deeper understanding of dementia, Rochcare hopes to continue improving the quality of support provided to residents and families.
Rochcare provides specialist dementia care across a number of its North West care homes, with a focus on compassionate support, meaningful engagement and creating safe, comfortable environments for residents.
The Dementia Care Experience programme is another example of Rochcare’s commitment to delivering high-quality dementia care, supporting care staff development and promoting best practices across residential and dementia care settings.
