Welcome to Royley House

Royley House is a modern, purpose-built residential care home in Royton, Oldham. The home provides accommodation, care and support for 41 people in a friendly, welcoming environment intentionally designed to ensure you feel safe and completely at home.

The home is close to local amenities and transport links and sits on the edge of the beautiful South Pennines. Nearby are shops, parks, places of worship and the hospital. The home is well equipped to support your full range of care needs, including mobility support, bathing assistance or needs associated with dementia.

Accommodation is provided over two floors, with each floor having its own lounge and dining areas, with lift access to each floor. Every bedroom is decorated and furnished to a high standard to create a cosy, homely environment. We encourage each person to decorate their room with their own photographs, books, and other keepsakes as we know adding these personal items plays a crucial part in making Royley House feel completely like home.

We believe having things to look forward to and a sense of purpose is very important, so we help people get the most from each day in whatever way is most appropriate for them. With this in mind, we have a regular schedule of activities on offer at Royley House, designed to keep the people we support entertained and engaged.

Life at Royley House

At Royley House, we provide you with all the support you need to live a dignified and fulfilling life and to continue to participate in the activities you’ve always enjoyed. We do this by finding out what was, and is, important to you and designing a care and support plan specific to your individual needs, interests and preferences.

Our dedicated Activity Coordinator carries out both group and one-to-one activities that are designed for all interests, abilities and mobility styles. Activities include crafts, baking, gardening, massage and beauty treatments, gentle exercise classes, reading/sewing groups and trips into the local community. We also host themed events, movie nights and encourage residents to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries together.

We also respect the privacy of residents who enjoy their own company – our home can cater to your loved one’s habits and social needs and we know how important quiet time can be too. With this in mind, we never pressure anyone to get involved before they’re ready to and take the lead of your loved one at every stage.

We are very lucky at Royley House to welcome so many visitors and have an ‘open door’ policy so family and friends can pop by whenever they like. Members of the community like to join us for a coffee and chat too, including the local vicar and a very friendly team of community police officers. Our lovely home really is a hub of the local community.

Food and nutrition

We pride ourselves on providing fresh, seasonal, home-cooked food that is prepared daily in our kitchen. Our experienced chefs offer a balanced, varied, and interesting choice of meals with a focus on health and nutrition.

Our kitchen caters for all dietary and eating requirements, including vegetarian, gluten-free, and soft or blended meals. We also ensure a tasty alternative to the main menu is always available.

Although our bright, communal dining rooms are the most popular space for mealtimes, we encourage those in our care to eat wherever they feel most comfortable. That may be the dining room, their private room, or another area of the home.

Snacks and drinks are also available between meals, with nutritious, freshly made smoothies, soups, sandwiches, and homemade sweet treats all available.

We know that those living with dementia or age-related difficulties can experience eating difficulties, so our experts are on hand to prepare meals outside of our set mealtimes. A large-format menu can be provided upon request, and adapted cutlery and crockery is also available if needed.

Hi my name is Tanya; I have worked in care for nearly 20 years. I initially started my carer in care as an activities co-ordinator, working my way up to Residential Lead and now Team Leader at Royley House. I am committed to ensuring that the residents in my care are treated with dignity and respect whilst delivering care that is person centred to each individual. I am great believer of “Our residents do not live where we work, we work in their home”
Mathew Nicholls

Maintenance

Hi my name is Mathew; I like to known as Mat. I am the maintenance person for Royley House and come with a wealth of self-taught DIY skills. I am also qualified in plumbing and electrical skills.

I have recently worked as a security guard and in my spare time worked for a friend who runs a building company this is where I learnt a lot of my skills.

Working at Royley is a new opportunity for me and I am looking forward to the various projects I can lend my skill sets too.
Terry Stevens

Chef

I spent 20 years in the British army catering Corp and travelled extensively around Europe and America, I also spent 10 years in the reserves.

Since then, I have worked mainly in the Midlands and Manchester in various restaurants and kitchens. Now as I near the end of my career I hope to give the residents at Royley House good home cooked food and end my career on a high.
Julie Bagshaw

Cook

My name is Julie and I am a mother of 3 girls and a Grandma to 2 baby boys. I have worked at Royley House for 7 years. I started as a kitchen assistant and I have cooked since the Covid pandemic. I enjoy what I do and I enjoy cooking for the residents. I have completed lots of training with regard to food hygiene and I am particularly proud of achieving our 5 * star hygiene certificate. I recently completed a Dysphagia training day with Oldham Speech and Language Therapy team, I loved it, I learned so much about special diets and helping to keep residents safe.
Kim Wilson

Admin

I started my career in 1994 after my children started school. I worked within the leisure services as a Receptionist and Swimming Teacher. I progressed in 2000 to an Administration Role in Bolton, my duties included Payroll, invoicing, customer communications. In 2002 I was promoted to Northwest Admin support which covered Manchester and Bolton, within this role I helped in phasing in new leisure Centres and Inclusive training for the admin teams on site. In 2013 I was promoted to Regional Admin Support covering seven regions. In 2024 I was looking for a more local position close to home and was offered the administrative position at Royley House, the staff here are first class and always willing to help and support. The care for the residents is immaculate and I am proud to work under an outstanding Management Team.
Gemma Griffiths

Deputy Manager

My name is Gemma and I am the Deputy Manager here at Royley House. I have always had a passion for care since being a young child, I had the opportunities to go along to work with mum who worked in residential and nursing care throughout my childhood. During my time spent in the homes I saw the love and care provided by the staff and also gained valuable insights into the intricacies of providing exceptional care. This ignited my passion to enter the care profession. I am driven by the belief that quality care is not just a duty but a calling ad I have worked hard to progress in my career which began as a care assistant around 5 years ago. My aim is to ensure an outstanding level of care is provided to our residents here at Royley House and is upheld at all times. I look forward to meeting you at Royley House soon!
