Before joining Pendle Brook, I previously ran a children’s activity/ party business and I quite often went into care homes and ran activities with the residents.
I found the whole experience incredibly rewarding, so I was keen to get involved when the role of activities coordinator came up at Pendle Brook.
I find working with the residents living with dementia particularly rewarding and love to see their faces come to life through singing and dancing.
As a children’s entertainer, I am very keen to get children involved in the residents lives as much as possible, through inviting them in take part in joint activities, singing, gardening, games and arts and craft.
“Intergenerational work is very important to me”.
I am an avid keep fit fan and am currently swimming the length of the English Channel and back, a distance of 44 miles over 12 weeks.
I also enjoy dancing, body combat (mixed martial arts) and weight training.
I am a dog lover and enjoy nothing more than walking my Golden Labrador Sam, out in the beautiful countryside in Lancashire.
I also enjoy dining out, trips to the theatre, cinema and bingo.
People often ask me why I chose social care… and my answer is always the same. It’s very rewarding, I thoroughly enjoy making a difference to the lives of residents.
My thinking is “I want to make everyday special, so tell me what you enjoy and I’ll try and make it happen”
I would have to say that the favourite part of my job, without a doubt would be the singing and dancing with the residents living with dementia.
